In a Galaxy Far, Far Away . . . .

I'm thrilled to introduce you to my second book with Riley Blake Designs titled Galaxy of Stars made from my new basic collection, Floret!

Galaxy of Stars Booklet by Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs

I introduced you to Floret here and here and here.

Galaxy of Stars is a compilation of 19-star studded projects using only TWO of my favorite basic quilting elements; the Half Square Triangle (HST) and Flying Geese (FG) to make these celestial designs.

There's a bit of a twist to these designs as well.  You can go all out and have every element in your quilt be nothing but stars in sizes of 4", 8" and 16" or you can go a wee bit quicker route and change out the 4" stars for a simple 4-Patch block.

WHAT?!!!  Yep - you read that right AND to make it easier to follow along, we "color coded" the designs so you can immediately distinguish the ALL stars version in black, gray and cream or the stars and 4-Patch version in red, white and blue.

Let me slow my roll a bit and show you what I'm talking about.

The Galaxy of Stars I Wall Hanging 24" x 24" (below) in red, white and blue showcases the stars and 4-Patch blocks.

While the black, gray and cream colorway, we simply REPLACE the 4-Patch blocks with 4" stars (below).  Same design, different look!

Then we took that SAME block and made a few more blocks to create a table runner 24" x 96" (below):

And did the same thing in the black, gray and cream (below):

And I bet you can guess what we did next!  If you guessed a quilt you would be 100% right!  Simply make and sew (3) table runners together for a super generous sized 72" x 96" lap quilt in red, white and blue (below):

 or black, gray and cream!

Isn't it fun to see how the design changes with the simple exchange of a 4-Patch block to a 4" star and changing the color palette too?!

I don't want to give away ALL the details of the Galaxy of Stars booklet but I think you can imagine all the fun that's tucked inside the 47 pages.

And as an ADDED bonus, Riley Blake Designs made SAME COLOR 5" Floret Stackers in Red, White, Blue, Black, Gray and Cream to make cutting for ANY of the Galaxy of Stars design that much easier!!

If 5" Stackers are not your thing, no worries.  The cutting instructions are for BOTH 5" SAME color stackers and yardage!  Galaxy of Stars is chocked full of options and varieties; you will not be disappointed!

Leave a comment below and let me know if you lean ALL Stars or do you like to mix it up a bit with 4-Patch and Star blocks.

Oh, I'd love to hear if you're Team Patriotic (red/white/blue) or Team Farmhouse (black/gray/cream) too.

Are you seeing stars yet?  I sure hope so!
Until next time, Happy Star-Filled Quilting!

  • Love the final example. I think it would look super with a dark background and different coloured stars. That would be a good way to use up scraps and make a striking quilt for a teenager.
