Majestic Sampler: (4) Basic Quilting Elements and the Perfect BOM!

Posted by Gerri Robinson on

In my opinion, the two best ways to break up your quilting into manageable chunks and keep the creative energy flowing throughout your project is to make a Block of the Month (BOM) quilt and do it with friends!

The Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern is the perfect design to do just that!  The entire quilt is designed around 4 of my 6 Basic Quilting Elements:  Half Square Triangle, Quick Angled Rectangle, Flying Geese and Square-in-a-Square.  Yep, that's right!  This quilt is unique in many ways and includes LOTS of bonus designs too.

If you need to brush up on any of my techniques, click below for each of the tutorials!

Half Square Triangles

Quick Angled Rectangles

Flying Geese

Square-in-a-Square

In the Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern you not only get the Sampler - but 13 BONUS QUILT DESIGNS!! That's 14 total patterns all bundled in ONE which breaks down to $1 per pattern!!

The (12) BONUS Quilts are designed by repeating EACH block - creating its own unique design. Let's take a look at a few of the BONUS quilts:

Bonus Quilt #4: As mentioned above, the BONUS quilt's design is created by repeating a block.  In Bonus Quilt #4, (42) Block #4s are made and sewn together really changing the look of the original block!

The (2) Basic Quilting Elements used in this design is the Half Square Triangle and Flying Geese.  Surprised a Square-in-a-Square is not one of the elements!  Oh those secondary designs that are created when you sew repeating blocks together - you never know what your eyes will see!

Bonus Quilt #8: Your eyes see Flying Geese but the blocks are created using Half Square Triangles!  Since it was a BONUS quilt, I wanted to play around with the layout and change it up a bit from the original layout used in the Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern.  Which layout do you like better - the Majestic Sampler block layout or the Bonus Quilt layout?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Bonus Quilt #11: More Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese are used to create this beauty!  In looking at the Bonus Quilt, it appears a group of 4 pinwheels are sewn together with a large pinwheel sashing to complete the look; but its not!  Take a look back at the Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern and check out Block #11.  Surprised?  Pretty interesting, right?!

Bonus Quilt #13: Is truly a Bonus pattern because its NOT a repeating block at all but rather the secondary design I saw when looking at the Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern as a whole!

Take a look back at the picture on the pattern cover and let me know if you see the secondary design as well!

LOTS of Flying Geese and Square-in-a-Square elements are used to make this beauty!

The Majestic Sampler Quilt Pattern was designed for you to make alone or with friends. Having the bonus quilts to work on at your own pace while also making the Block of Month with your friends allows you to set the pace for yourself and sew as little or as much as you want!

At Planted Seed Designs we firmly believe that you should get the maximum value available with every single pattern you buy. Why walk away with only one quilt design when you could have 14 instead?!

Stay tuned for future blog posts where we will highlight ALL of the bonus quilts and walk you through their designs! I know you will love this pattern and I can't wait to see what you create!
