Block 5: RBD Block Challenge

Posted by Gerri Robinson on

Welcome back!  Rachel Erickson of Citrus and Mint Designs is the featured RBD Challenge Block Designer this week with her Ocean Waves block!

If you're on Instagram you HAVE to check out her top grid posts @citrusandmintdesigns.  She gave it her all and really played upon the Ocean Waves theme starting with her NEW fabric collection, Riptide!

I LOVE the video of her husband - everything about it is perfect!  You'll know what I mean when you check it out!

RBD leaned "coastal" with their color palette too using the Lodge Pole, Cape Verde and Le Creme colors from the new Confetti Cotton colors!

When I pulled my Gem Stone prints for my "Ocean Waves" block I must have had my yard and garden beds in mind because there is NO blue in my block whatsoever to help convey ocean waves.

Hmmm . . . . I'm thinking I may have to make another one that pays a bit of homage to the ocean.  We all know I have quite an assortment of blues in the Gem Stones Brights palette like Bahama Blue or Lagoon BlueWith names like that, they SCREAM ocean waves!

Check back next week to see if I get it done!

I'm feeling a bit embarrassed with all my shades of green in an Ocean Wave block so let me put MY spin on it to help you understand where my head was (at the time); mostly all the time especially this time of year!

As I was pulling fabric, subconsciously I wanted to be out in my gardens to see what plants survived our relatively mild winter and to see if there were any signs of new growth popping up through the earth in my flower beds.

I know!  I.can't.help.myself!  I just convinced myself that I WILL be doing ANOTHER block that is more in line with Ocean Waves - stay tuned!

For those of you who are interested in this "green" version, I used Sonic Green for the "waves" and the lightest portion of Lime Light for the ground.

I have to ask . . . . does your mind wonder to your gardens or a beach escape or both?
